Digital Nomad Visa

The Nomad Residence Permit enables holders to retain their current employment based in another country whilst legally residing in Malta.

The Permit is open to individuals who can work remotely and independent of location, using telecommunications technologies.

A Nomad Residence Permit will be issued for one year and can be renewed upon application at the discretion of Residency Malta, as long as the applicant still meets the set eligibility criteria.

The majority of local nomads in Malta were European citizens and with the boom in remote working due to the pandemic, Malta decided to expand the opportunity to third-country nationals as well

Highly Qualified Persons

Malta introduced a specific Tax Programme, the “Highly Qualified Persons Rule” with the sole aim and purpose of recruiting the highest qualified, experienced and senior professionals available over the globe, as a measure to attract top talent and skills in the financial services, virtual financial assets framework, remote gaming and aviation sectors.

This scheme was introduced by virtue of L.N. 106 of 2011 and prolonged to these other sectors by the Legal Notice 141 of 2018

Key Employment Initiative

The KEI is aimed at those who apply for a managerial or a highly-technical post which requires relevant qualifications or adequate experience related to the job being applied for.

Single permit applications based on the Key Employee Initiative are processed on a fast-track basis to ensure that third-country nationals applying for managerial or highly-technical posts with Maltese companies may commence employment as quickly as possible.

Ordinary Residency

"Malta Ordinary Residency" refers to the status granted to individuals who are nationals of the EU/EEA/Switzerland who meet the criteria set by the Maltese government to establish their residence in Malta for an extended period. Ordinary residency is typically pursued by individuals who intend to reside in Malta for a longer duration, often for work, business, or personal reasons.

Permanent Residency Programme

The Malta Permanent Residence Programme (MPRP), allows third-country nationals to get a second residency in Malta, which is a member of the European Union and a member of the Schengen Area. The Programme is governed by a strong legislative framework that permits the Main Applicant to add his or her spouse, children, parents (including in-law parents), and grandparents in the application and to grant them the right to remain or settle indefinitely in Malta

Citizenship by Investment

The new Malta Citizenship by Direct Investment Regulations allows individuals and family dependants to acquire Citizenship, and therefore a Maltese Passport, by making a direct investment in the country.

A government contribution goes to the national development and social fund is deemed to be paid before being granted with Maltese Citizenship.
